HGTV Carter Can Show Features Solara Adjustable Patio Cover / Pergola HCCAN-712H

HGTV has just aired an episode (Elegant English Garden Inspired Outdoor Patio Episode HCCAN-712H) of the Carter Can Show featuring the Solara Adjustable Patio Cover / Pergola.

The HGTV Carter Can Show is in its 7th Season hosted by Carter Oosterhouse who was asked to install a wood pergola on this project but needed something adjustable which would keep the rain off the patio.

The home owner Celeste Patchett needed a pergola covered patio to sit under during rain that would let the light and sun in when needed and adjustable to provide plenty of ventilation.

The Carter Can people thought Solara would be the perfect fit and the episode was filmed in September of 2009. They used wood pergola posts and beams for the base structure fastened to the roof for added height and put the Aluminum adjustable pergola on top.

Solara is an Adjustable pergola and as such allows Light, Shade, Ventilation, and rain protection to be adjustable by either a remote control / motor, or a manual operator with a crank handle. It is made of aluminum so it is maintenance free and comes in 5 standard colors. It is adjustable to 130 degrees to cleaning mode.

This allows you to clean the top of the louvers from underneath with a garden hose. When the adjustable pergola louvers are tilted to 90 degrees it can provide 100% shade and 100% ventilation at the same time with a lower sun angle.

The Adjustable Patio Cover is also eco-friendly. Solara says “It’s the greenest patio cover on earth because it is made of recyclable aluminum, gives your home shade to lower air-conditioning costs, adds light in windows to lower power bills, allows winter sun (passive solar heat gain) to cut heating bills, and naturally waters lawn or garden by controlling the water”.

This is the first time the Adjustable Awning has appeared on HGTV even though they have featured wood pergolas and aluminum pergolas in the past. The whole Carter Can Crew was amazed at how the Solara louvers open and closed to provide sun or shade as needed and expressed it was one of the most innovative projects they had ever done.
